Newsgroups
are almost as old as the Internet itself. Traditional newsgroups are based
in specialized clients (Outlook Express is an example) that users had to
configure prior to use.
Web versions have appear recently demanding nothing from users but that
they participate. But in most of them users lost the "tree" view
of the messages (their hierarchy), something necessary to understand the
correct message sequence.
Our application supports all of the important characteristics from
traditional newsgroups, namely:
- Ilimited number of thematic groups
- Public
- Private (authorized users only)
- tree view of the message hierarchy with different icons for:
- Messages without replies
- Messages with replies
- Message opened on the moment
- Anonimous and identified users, using its own user list or the
site registered users base;
- File attachments (1 per message)
dependent on user rights
- Rich Text editor allows for formatted
text messages (Bolds, fonts, etc) directly on Internet Explorer or
copy / paste from MS-Word.
- Multiple-criteria searches;
- Administration interface allows:
- Define Users;
- Define Newsgroups;
- For each newsgroup:
- Define if anonymous users can enter a given newsgroup;
- Define if anonymous users can add file attachments;
- Define if anonymous users can insert messages;
The application dosn't allow a lot of personalization to the site look
and feel. The only things that can be altered are:
- Colors;
- Logo;
- Icons;
- Initial frames size;
